| [5/2/2001] Episode #20 "Promicide" |
Guess late is better than never. I loved last week's episode. After the couples got to the prom they all went their separate way. Joey got Pacey alone and wanted to make out (it seemed), but he wasn't up to it. She wanted to know what was his problem. Since he had gotten back from his fishing, camping trip, or whatever it was he has distanced himself from her. Seems he either walks away when she wants to get intimate or he gets angry. Well, Pacey walked off to get some air...in the mean time Gretchen went for some air herself and a bit of something to drink...not punch either.
After Pacey and Gretchen had gotten air and had a little talk with each other about their other halves they returned to the gallery where they caught Joey and Dawson dancing together and smiling and joking around. Pacey broke down and ventured over to Joey and Dawson on the dance floor. He wanted to know what was going on. Said that very moment dancing with Dawson was the happiest he had seen her in a long time and then he just snapped and let all his built up anger and frustration go. Pacey was rude, harsh and out of line when he blew up at Joey. Joey's heart broke upon Pacey's words. She asked him if he was finished and then told Pacey that he could go to hell. She ran off with Dawson in tail. Joey needed a friend and Dawson was there to help her through her pains. I thought it was pretty funny when they started talking... they wanted to make it clear that they didn't want to talk about what had just happened or about what happened earlier in the day.
Want to know what happened I guess, well, here it is.
On the way to the Prom, everyone decided to stop off for some snacks and drinks and other such items, say box of condems. It was obvious from Dawson's and Jack's earlier talk that he was hoping/somewhat expecting to bed Gretchen after the prom. So, he wanted to be prepared and picked up a box of condems but unfortunately he then ran into Joey and dropped them on the floor. Joey picked them up and handed the condems back to the embarrassed Dawson Leery. That is what I was talking about.
Back to what I was saying before I was interrupted by my own annoying thoughts.
And because of Dawson's willingness to jump in and help, even with Gretchen's permission, he seems to have possibly lost Gretchen forever. Dawson wanting to help the girl that he has never and will ever get over along with the fact that after 4 years she was back at the prom, Gretchen has finally said that it is basically over between her and Dawson. Not sure though, at least not yet. As much as I have always been a Joey and Dawson fanatic I must say that I think they are truly happy just being the best of friends which they have rekindled since the days of old. The love is there and they both have stored it away so they could live out their lives.
Now Jen pulled a fast one on Jack, even after he said that he didn't want to go to the prom with Tobey. So Jack-aroo played hardball and told Drew that Jen was dying to go to the prom with him and he accepted. Of course Jen wasn't too thrilled with the idea, actually I thought she was going to kill both Jack and Drew, that is before she got drunk and almost fell overboard on the yacht. Well, that is later on. Jack did get up the courage to go through with the date and throughout the night he and Tobey seemed to have fun talking and eating, but when Tobey asked Jack to dance it broke loose. Tobey walked away in disgust because he knows that there is more between them than Jack is letting on or is willing to admit. Later, Jack realizes that he just needs to let his feelings be known and approaches Tobey and admits to him that he does have feelings for Tobey and that he is no longer ashamed of being at the prom with him. Then out of no where Jack kissed Tobey and it wasn't a small peck on the cheek kiss either. Nope, it was a semi-long drawn out french kiss that they both seemed to really enjoy. I wasn't expecting this since the contraversy of his first kiss with Ethan, but I didn't turn away either. It was a nice kiss at the right time and I'm thrilled that Jack is finally happy with himself and his lifestyle.
Now Jen really does have a drinking problem. I guess Drew's presence made her drift back into the bottles, though small they were. Jen found out that Jack offered to pay him $50 to be her date and her shadow so he was to go wherever she went and he did. They talked for a while on the deck of the ship, more like Jen talked and Drew listened, very nicely I must add. She told him about her dad and how he slept with her friend and how he tried to lay the guilt and story telling on her (Jen). Might I remind you she was pretty drunk and she got more tipsy as the night went on and eventually fell over the ship's railing only to be caught by Drew. He pulled her back over the railing and she collapsed in his arms.
Pacey appologized to Joey but then he kind of took the apology back. He basically said that he had nothing left for their relationship. There is no more sailing the east coast, there is no more future. Then he re-stated the longer she is with him the angrier he gets and longer she stays with him the more he will take it out on her. He said he fills worthless and like a nobody when she is around. He hates that she doesn't get angry or find faults with all his mess ups. She is like this perfect girl and he is a total screwup. At the beginning of the ep he was trying to help Joey with her prom dress and he ripped it in the back. He picked up Dawson and his cracage (misspelled I know) and forgot to put them in the refrigerator so they were ruined. He rented everyone (Dawson, Gretchen, him, Joey, Jack, Tobey, Jen and Drew) a limo, well it ended up being the Airport jalopy (probably misspelled) limo. The limo had seen its last days and was way dirty and run down, but did Joey say anything no, she just took the moment and went with it and knew that this was her night. She couldn't have been more wrong. She asked him how was it that it was the perfect night, she's with the perfect guy, she's the perfect girl, and yet he dumps her...I would say there was nothing perfect about it.
Sorry that this was late. As usual when I break down and write my own twisted little summaries I paraphrase and take things out of sequence. Only a few quotes come to my head when I write these and even those are paraphrased.
Overall I loved the episode. It seemed that Jen may have found a true friend in Drew. Oh, I forgot a big surprise at the end. On the limo trip back home the mood in the limo was nothing to brag about. Joey sat up front with Pacey leaning against the back, side window. Guess they wanted some distance from eath other. Dawson just kept looking back and forth at Gretchen and I assume each glance at her made his heart fold just a little bit more. Jack and Tobey were ditting together with Jen and Drew. Jen was asleep with her head on Drew. Jack motioned and started to give Drew the $50, but Drew waved him off and shook his head no. I''m hoping that something is built between Jen and Drew. Drew adds something to the show...something that has been missing since Abby died...spunk, character, and swellness of being. You know you should hate him, but for some reason you can't...he's too likeable a character, much like Abby was before her departure.
